Offer description

The Centre:

The RFC provides care for elderly patients with mental illness, often with age-related frailty or comorbid dementia. The Roy Fagan Centre is also a quaternary referral centre for people with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). Patients with young onset dementia or Huntington's disease are sometimes admitted. Interventions range from fully restorative to palliative and terminal care. Most patients are admitted under the Older Person's Mental Health Service, with up to ten under the Geriatrics service. A new Operational Service Manual is being finalized as part of a four-year reform program.

The Team:

The Roy Fagan Centre's clinical team is led by Old Age Psychiatrists training psychiatry registrars, and senior nurses with general and psychiatric training. The care assistants, enrolled nurses, and general nurses have a newly enhanced leadership structure. The multidisciplinary team includes social workers and other allied health professionals, with ongoing appointments of more allied health staff as part of the reform.

The Role:

We are seeking a General Practitioner for the Roy Fagan Centre. The GP will provide primary health care for inpatients under the Older Persons Mental Health Service, including assessments and management of medical, surgical, and other health issues in this elderly group. Responsibilities include vaccinations, incidental illnesses, chronic and complex conditions, and palliative and terminal care. The GP will liaise with specialists, such as visiting geriatricians or hospital specialists, and will be part of the senior clinical leadership team, advising on broader issues affecting this vulnerable group.

You will need:

* Demonstrated knowledge and ability to implement evidence-based practices and adhere to contemporary standards and policies relevant to OPMHS.
* Recent experience in an older person's mental health setting.
* Knowledge and skill in risk assessment and management for older clients with mental health, dementia, or physical health issues.
* Capacity for independent clinical judgment, working as part of a team, and providing clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary team.
* Patient-focused qualities such as respect, politeness, and empathy, balanced with confident clinical decision-making to ensure safety and positive outcomes.

Note: Please refer to the Statement of Duties for all selection criteria to address in your application.

Details of appointment:

Permanent part-time, day worker (with on-call), up to 60.8 hours per fortnight, starting as soon as possible. Hours are negotiable.

Applicants should note that, for twelve months from the date of publication, this process may be used to fill similar vacancies, including full-time, part-time, and casual roles.

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 - Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3: $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro-rata + 12% superannuation.

Access to salary packaging benefits, allowances, and other benefits are available, including a motor vehicle allowance, private practice scheme participation, continuing professional development allowance, and fitness passport.

Eligibility:

* Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty.
* Registration/licenses must remain current and valid at all times during employment.

Desirable criteria include Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP).

See the Application Guide for pre-employment checks.
