About the Role:
The Land Manager role is responsible for supporting the training of the Yinhawangka Ranger Training Program. The role reports to the General Manager of On Country Academy and liaises with other internal OCA staff as well as the Yinhawangka support team.
Key Accountabilities & Result Areas:
* Supervise and coordinate the activities of the Yinhawangka Training Rangers to ensure delivery of the training required during the independent learning times.
* Collaborate with management, trainers and staff to plan, report, and evaluate the Yinhawangka Ranger Training Program.
* Assist to plan, supervise and participate in field training activities in remote locations associated with completing the training plan.
* Work with and mentor the trainee Rangers to develop their personal and project skills, leadership abilities and work ethic.
* Participate and lead training where appropriate and undertake the supervision of assessment activities.
* Ensure high level responsibility taken by trainee Rangers for the care, maintenance and safekeeping of equipment and resources used.
* Undertake appropriate pre-trip and post-trip planning and reporting.
* Be available for FIFO rostered training.
* Always ensure compliance with cultural protocols and YAC Policy and Procedures, including the promotion of safe working practices and instruction of Trainee Rangers in OH&S policy and procedures.
* Work collaboratively with all colleagues, teams, and stakeholders throughout the course of work.
* Actively and positively contribute to the OCA and YAC team culture.
* Follow all other reasonable management requests as directed.
* Other duties related to the role, including assistance with training ranger programs with other Traditional Owners.
Requirements:
* Prior experience in a similar role related to training and/or working on Country and/or team leadership.
* Experience and/or qualifications in a range of the following: cultural protocols, ecology, agriculture, threatened species conservation, conservation and land management, fire abatement and suppression, or community development.
* Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal communities, managing small teams, and coordinating on-ground natural and cultural resource management projects.
* Understanding of Aboriginal social and cultural challenges and a commitment to community empowerment, training, and development.
* Experience working independently in remote areas with minimal supervision, maintaining focus and organisation in challenging work environments.
* Capacity to undertake training in practical activities related to work projects.
* Strong communication, negotiation, and community consultation skills.
* Proficiency with common computer programs and experience managing emails and documents.
* Applicant to have or be able to obtain:
* Working with Children's Check (WCC).
* National Police Check.
* The successful applicant will be expected to have a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or gain one within 4 months of commencement.
Location:
The role's main activities will be on Yinhawangka Country which is based on the Paraburdoo region.
Accommodation, meals and transport are provided when on Country in mining camp accommodation.
This is a mid-senior level position available to people of all backgrounds.
