Overview
We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs - Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Grandis Primary School (GPS) provides facilities including five teaching blocks, an administration area, playgrounds, an undercover area, a library, a dental therapy centre, five multi-purpose courts and an oval shared with the City of Wanneroo. Responsibilities
* Support the teaching and learning of students by assisting the teacher in delivering planned education programs, with a focus on literacy, numeracy, play/behaviour support and social skills.
* Help prepare and maintain the learning environment and care for and supervise students in and out of class.
* Work as part of a team and contribute to classroom, small group or individual student support settings. Be willing to be placed in Early Childhood classroom roles as well as Special Needs support roles.
* Participate in professional learning opportunities to further build skills and knowledge.
* Demonstrate a commitment to collaborative, positive relationships with students, parents, staff and the wider community.
* Show flexibility, initiative and teamwork; possess strong interpersonal and communication skills; and collaborate with teachers to create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program tailored to student needs.
* Have knowledge of strategies to support students with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, high level physical and medical needs, anxiety disorders, behaviour support and sensory integration issues (highly desirable).
* Experience with tailored intervention sessions (e.g., Sounds-Write, Reading Mastery, Spelling Mastery, Bond Blocks, Heggerty) would enhance suitability; experience with Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) processes is advantageous.
Qualifications and Skills
* Able to interact effectively with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
* Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team in evaluating and supporting educational and therapy programs.
* Good organisational skills to assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs and provide feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
* Ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
* Knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents; ability to support general health and well-being of students.

* Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.

* Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
