Electronic Security Technical Officers
to support the operation, maintenance, enhancement, and commissioning of
Gallagher Electronic Access Control Systems (EACS) and Type 1A electronic security systems
across DFAT's domestic facilities.
This role is ideal for a technically strong, detail-driven security professional who thrives in
high-assurance environments

Role Overview
The
Technical Officer – Electronic Security
plays a critical role in supporting DFAT's protective security posture. You will provide hands-on technical expertise to ensure that electronic security systems remain
reliable, compliant, resilient, and fit for purpose
.
Working within secure DFAT facilities, you will support day-to-day operations while also contributing to planned upgrades, system enhancements, and new security initiatives. You will liaise closely with DFAT stakeholders, installers, project teams, and Azooa delivery leads to ensure electronic security outcomes are delivered safely, accurately, and on schedule.
This is a
single-resource contract engagement
, offering autonomy, responsibility, and exposure to nationally significant security infrastructure.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Operations & Support
Provide specialist technical support for
Gallagher EACS and Type 1A electronic security systems
across DFAT domestic sites
Perform preventative and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, rectification, and system optimisation
Conduct system upgrades, firmware updates, and configuration changes in line with DFAT security policies
Support the installation, programming, configuration, testing, and commissioning of:
* Electronic Access Control Systems
* Intrusion Detection & Alarm Systems
* Integrated CCTV solutions
Project & Upgrade Support
Conduct detailed site surveys to assess existing electronic security infrastructure
Identify capability gaps, upgrade opportunities, and maintenance requirements
Provide technical advice and subject-matter expertise to DFAT design teams and project stakeholders
Support security system refits, technology refresh programs, and infrastructure enhancements
Coordinate pre-installation and pre-maintenance planning activities, including:
* Logistics and freight
* Procurement support
* Scheduling and stakeholder communications
Stakeholder Engagement
Liaise with DFAT security personnel, facilities teams, and project managers
Coordinate with installers, subcontractors, and vendors to deliver security works
Act as a trusted technical advisor in sensitive and high-security environments
Maintain a professional, discreet, and solutions-focused approach at all times
Documentation & Compliance
Prepare, update, and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including:
* As-built drawings
* System architecture diagrams
* Site plans
* Configuration and access control records
* Ensure all work complies with:
* AS/NZS standards
* ISO requirements
* WHS obligations
* DFAT Protective Security Policies and Procedures
Training & Knowledge Transfer
Develop and deliver training for DFAT personnel operating electronic security systems
Provide user support and technical guidance to ensure effective system use
Contribute to continuous improvement through knowledge sharing and lessons learned
Travel & Work Environment
Domestic travel as required to support DFAT sites
Occasional overseas travel may be required
Operate with minimal supervision while managing competing priorities
Work effectively under pressure in sensitive, secure, and time-critical environments
Mandatory Skills & Experience
Demonstrated hands-on experience with
Gallagher EACS programming and administration
Proven experience installing, maintaining, and supporting
Type 1 / Type 1A electronic security systems
Strong understanding of
TCP/IP networking, VLANs, and system integration
Ability to read and interpret:
* Technical manuals
* Wiring diagrams
* Schematics
* Security system drawings
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively
* Prior experience working within
government, defence, or high-security facilities
Mandatory Qualifications & Certifications
NV2 Security Clearance or higher (DFAT-recognised)
Gallagher Certification – EACS & Type 1A (including Privileged User access)

* Working Safely at Heights

* Asbestos Awareness
* First Aid
* Current Australian Driver's Licence
Highly Desirable Experience
Gallagher Type 1A Accreditation
Gallagher Access Technician Accreditation
Experience with integrated CCTV and alarm systems
Previous DFAT or broader Federal Government project experience
