Job Opportunity: Business Development Professional
We are seeking an experienced and community-minded professional to drive the future of Indigenous tourism in a region for a QLD government department.
About the Role:
* Build culturally trusted relationships with Indigenous people, negotiate and develop effective networks with senior internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, industry, and business associations.
* Be the interface between Indigenous peoples/businesses and government for the commercial development of Indigenous tourism experiences.
* Help Indigenous businesses and the Indigenous experience sector with clear guidance on framing their vision and pathway to success and securing collaborators and support on that pathway.
* Respond to issues related to Indigenous tourism in the region, including emergent public facing matters that require softening; support officials with client meetings.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement initiatives related to Indigenous tourism that align with whole-of-government strategies and tourism agenda.
* Showcase Indigenous tourism success stories, including preparing case studies.
* Contribute to the development and delivery of programs that will foster the economic development of the tourism industry, with a particular focus on business development of Indigenous tourism operators and experiences.
* Provide timely, high-level briefings, submissions, reports, correspondence, and presentations on a range of tourism policy and program issues to management and key stakeholders.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
* A strong background in tourism, with business development and commercialisation experience.
* High-level governance, administrative, and reporting skills – including ministerial briefings and program reporting.
* Confident working across diverse stakeholders, including First Nations elders, native title bodies, local government, councils, and tourism operators.
* Financial literacy and experience mentoring or supporting small businesses.
* Comfortable discussing the commercialisation of culture in a transparent and respectful way with community leaders.
* Experience facilitating strategic partnerships and cross-cultural collaboration (e.g. between First Nations and non-ATSI businesses).
This is an Identified Position. Experience as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person or candidates with a strong network of existing contacts within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business community and candidates with a strong understanding of the cultural and business practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples will be highly regarded.
