Following our recent expansion into South Australia, we are seeking an experienced Senior Service Locator to join our growing team. Summary of Position
Position Summary
The Senior Service Locator is responsible for delivering a wide range of underground utility surveying and service locating tasks in accordance with client requirements, Asset Survey standards, and agreed deliverables. This role ensures all outcomes are completed to the highest professional standard, on time, and in full compliance with relevant safety and quality protocols. The Senior Service Locator will also provide leadership, technical expertise, and mentoring to junior team members.
Reporting & Working Relationships
Reports to: General Manager / State Coordinator
Liaises with: Surveyors, Service Locators, and NDD Truck Operators
Supervises: Assigned team members and trainees when required
Qualifications & Experience
5–10 years of hands-on experience in utility surveys using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems and Electro-Magnetic Frequency (EMF) detectors.
Industry-recognised qualifications in utility locating, such as:
Staking-U or NULCA (National Utility Locating Contractors Association) accreditation
Equivalent utility location training/accreditation
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to liaise professionally with clients, site project managers, and team members.
Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Australian Diploma in Surveying or equivalent qualification.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct service locating and utility survey tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager and/or Operations Coordinator.
Deliver all surveys efficiently, safely, and to the highest professional standard.
Maintain allocated equipment and vehicles in optimal working condition, ensuring the same high standards are met by team members under your supervision.
Keep accurate and detailed job progress records to support invoicing and project documentation.
Manage job allocation and workflow within assigned projects or on an ad-hoc basis.
Oversee and ensure adherence to professional, competent, and quality-assured procedures across the team.
Prepare and organise job requirements in advance (e.g., DBYD data, field notes, record drawings).
Ensure all SUI Standard Survey deliverables are drafted and approved through QA processes before submission to clients.
Maintain regular communication with the General Manager and/or State Coordinator regarding project progress and issues.
Provide training, guidance, and mentoring to new staff members and trainees.
