What You'll Do
1. Work sensitively and respectfully with parents, family members, children, or young people.
2. Collaborate with other agencies and engage in complex problem solving.
3. Assist families in setting goals that meet their needs, addressing safety and wellbeing concerns, and providing appropriate support through home visits.
4. Develop safety plans and conduct risk assessments.
5. Manage cases involving high needs and high-risk clients and their families.
6. Participate in court processes, including preparing documents and attending hearings.
7. Engage in individual and group supervision sessions.
Being an Aboriginal Child Protection Caseworker can be challenging. Sometimes, tough decisions must be made to help families overcome hardships and create safe, loving homes.
What We're Looking For
Ideal candidates are confident, curious, and resilient. The essential requirements include:
* A relevant diploma or degree (preferred).
* Candidates without formal qualifications require at least two years of experience working with vulnerable children, young people, and families.
* Ability to build positive relationships, supported by excellent communication skills.
* A valid driver's license.
* A current Working with Children clearance.
* Verification of Aboriginality, confirming you are of Aboriginal descent and identify as Aboriginal.
This is an Identified role, open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons. As such, race is a genuine occupational qualification under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Role Confirmation
Applicants must upload one of the following to be considered:
* Confirmation of Aboriginality form, or
* Written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organizations in your community, addressing:
o Descent as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander,
o Self-identification as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander,
o Acceptance by the community.
