Help shape our region's growth by providing expert development engineering advice and assessments across a broad range of development matters. In this role, you'll partner with applicants, consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality infrastructure outcomes for the community.

About the role

As a Development Engineer, you will provide engineering services to Council, industry and the general public across a broad range of development matters. Under general direction, you will assess the engineering components of a variety of development applications, helping ensure timely processing, consistency in approach, and quality outcomes for donated assets.

Key responsibilities
* Assess engineering aspects of development applications (including conditions, referrals and approvals) in line with legislation, Council policy and service standards.
* Provide clear, timely technical advice to applicants, consultants, the community and internal stakeholders across a range of contact channels.
* Review civil engineering designs and supporting documentation for proposed infrastructure (e.g., roads, drainage, stormwater, earthworks and related assets) to ensure compliance with relevant standards and approvals.
* Contribute to the coordination and timely processing of applications, maintaining consistency and quality in decision-making and recommendations.
* Participate in a collaborative team culture focused on exceptional customer experience and continuous improvement.
* Build effective working relationships and negotiate practical engineering outcomes with internal and external stakeholders.
* Support the quality of Council's donated assets through thorough assessment and documentation.
What you'll bring
* Degree qualification in Civil Engineering (or equivalent discipline relevant to development engineering).
* Demonstrated experience assessing development applications and/or civil infrastructure designs within a development approvals environment.
* Sound knowledge of relevant standards, guidelines and legislation applicable to civil development works.
* Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, well-structured technical advice and conditions.
* Well-developed stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to explain technical matters to non-technical audiences.
* Current Queensland 'C' Class Driver Licence.
Desirable
* RPEQ registration (or working towards eligibility).
* Experience in local government development assessment and familiarity with planning scheme/engineering policy frameworks.
* Knowledge of infrastructure charges, conditions, operational works approvals, and construction compliance processes.
