Defence Digital Group (DDG) is responsible for shaping, delivering and sustaining an integrated and scalable ICT environment, the Single Information Environment (SIE), to enable Defence to fight and win in the digital age. The DDG Engineering Branch is responsible for providing and applying technological principles to create, manage, and maintain digital systems and infrastructure in a scaled agile framework (SAFe). Our aim is to reduce the complexity and remove legacy systems to improve efficiency, reduce costs and enhance agility.
We are seeking a motivated Microsoft 365 Engineer to support the design and uplift of modern workplace solutions across Defence. You will contribute to the configuration and integration of Microsoft 365 services, including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, Purview, Defender, Intune, Co-pilot, W365 virtual desktops, and Power Platform to enhance secure collaboration across the organisation.
Working under guidance from senior engineers and architects, you will assist in analysing requirements, undertaking technical assessments, preparing solutions and design artefacts, and supporting assurance activities. You will collaborate with cross functional teams across DDG to help ensure M365 solutions align with Defence security standards and deliver practical value to end users. This role offers the opportunity to deepen your expertise while contributing to capabilities that support Defence's mission in the digital age.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. Microsoft 365 Engineering is responsible for enabling modern, secure collaboration and productivity capabilities across Defence and ensuring Microsoft 365 solutions contribute to Defence's evolving needs in the digital age. The chapter oversees the architecture, design, and assurance of Defence's Microsoft 365 technology landscape, including key services such as Teams, SharePoint, Exchange Online, Purview, Intune, Power Platform, and more.
This includes ensuring solutions align to Defence strategy, architectural standards, reusable patterns, and security and legislative requirements. The chapter ensures solutions are purposefully designed to drive adoption of modern ways of working and deliver practical improvements to productivity and collaboration. DDG has a strong learning culture and offer professionalisation pathways.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:
* Experience implementing and supporting Microsoft 365 products and services such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, Purview, Defender, Intune, Copilot, W365 virtual desktops, and Power Platform.
* Familiarity of ICT security frameworks including ISO27001, the ISM and the Essential Eight, and the ability to apply these principles in a secure enterprise environment.
* Strong documentation skills, including drafting technical artefacts, configuration baselines, and materials for design or assurance reviews.
* Effective communication and engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and support solution outcomes.
* Familiarity of hybrid and cloud based environments and an interest in developing deeper expertise across M365 technologies.
