Primary objective
The Professional Development and Training Officer is responsible for researching best practice and translating this into training
materials for attendance and engagement staff in the Department of Education and Training. The Professional Development and
Training Officer will deliver face to face and online professional development and training for school and corporate staff across the
Northern Territory.

Context statement
Engagement Programs, Performance and Reporting is responsible for developing strategic, evidence-based, and data-informed
initiatives to support priority students, and students at risk of disengaging from education, with place-based approaches that are
culturally appropriate, and trauma informed.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Update databases and liaise with departmental staff to enable efficient processing and recording of staff training.
2. Coordinate the recording of internal and external courses, purchase of training and education equipment, training materials and

training aids.
3. Research tailored training for education staff in response to industry and community needs to improve attendance and

engagement outcomes.
4. Develop contemporary training materials and facilitate training to departmental staff across the Northern Territory.
5. Provide efficient administrative support including maintaining the team email and calendar, record and analyse all incoming

correspondence, information management/record keeping, processing invoices for payment, and other administration duties
as required.

6. Coordinate and organise meetings, training and conference activities and formulate meeting agendas, take minutes, and
distribute as well as manage bookings for meeting rooms.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience in training and presenting to multidisciplinary audiences, including a high level of written communication, and

reporting skills, explaining policy, procedures, legislation, and systems to operational staff.
2. High level interpersonal, communication and organisational skills that demonstrate effective team membership and the ability
3. to work in a workforce development and training environment.
4. Proven skills in the effective use of computer-based systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, databases, and electronic

payment systems.
5. Ability to develop and retain strong professional working relationships with schools, colleagues within the agency and other

agencies and the education sector and an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
6. Working knowledge of electronic records management and purchasing and procurement systems.
