Corporate - General Attorney in Perth, Western Australia
Job Responsibilities:
* Offering in-house advice and reviewing legal matters as they arise within the organization.
* Assisting business leaders in setting strategy for major commercial and contract matters to achieve optimal commercial outcomes.
* Providing accurate and timely legal advice on a variety of legal topics, including but not limited to contracts and procurement, corporate transactions, mining and native title, labor law, and project finance.
* Assisting in the allocation of resources and skills between in-house and external lawyers to ensure cost-effective legal advice.
* Reviewing external legal advice and assessing the performance of external lawyers as required.
* Developing and reviewing contractual terms and contract documentation, including maintaining a contracts register.
* Aiding the business in understanding contractual commitments, participating in dispute resolution/negotiations, and providing recommendations for resolution and settlement.
* Liaising with internal personnel and brokers to ensure appropriate levels of insurance are maintained by the company and its business partners.
* Communicating and negotiating with external parties such as regulators, external counsel, and public authorities, fostering relationships of trust.
* Providing clarification on legal language or specifications to all members of the organization.
* Keeping updated with new laws and regulations that may impact the company.
Education and Experience Information:
* A tertiary qualification in a relevant legal discipline and admission as a Solicitor in Australia.
* A minimum of 5 years of experience as a legal counsel in a commercial environment.
* Proven experience and excellent knowledge in corporate law and procedures, contract law, mining law, employment law, and native title.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and commercial drafting skills.
* A solid understanding of corporate transactions, corporate governance, and compliance issues.
* Outstanding legal advisory and contract management skills, with the ability to clearly identify and articulate legal issues and risks.
* Understanding of general mining operations is also required.
