Position Title: Community Engagement Officer

The Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV) is the peak body for Muslim organisations in Victoria. The ICV represents the wider Victorian Muslim community through more than 80 member organisations located throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
The ICV's vision is to build a better community for all Australians through the empowerment of Muslims in Victoria. The ICV aims to fulfil this vision through the provision of advocacy, community development and social welfare services, in consultation and cooperation with governments, multifaith communities, service providers and wider society. The ICV is firmly committed to providing support for, and protecting the rights of, Victorian Muslims.
Role Purpose
The Community Engagement Officer works to strengthen relationships between Muslim communities, member societies, service providers, local councils, schools, and broader civil society. The role focuses on delivering engagement activities, building awareness, and supporting the development of culturally appropriate resources.
The Officer will design and deliver in-person and online engagement initiatives, gather insights from communities, and develop resources that support awareness, education, and service access. This role is central to ensuring communities feel connected to and supported by the ICV.
Key Accountabilities:
· Deliver community engagement activities aligned with the ICV's objectives.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with Muslim communities, member societies, local government, service providers, and schools.
· Coordinate and facilitate consultations, workshops, forums, and webinars (in-person and online) to gather community insights and feedback.
· Support the development and dissemination of community resources (e.g., toolkits, fact sheets, videos, digital content).
· Assist in online engagement activities, including social media, webinars, and digital outreach that promote ICV's work.
· Contribute to community information sessions and presentations.
· Maintain accurate records of engagement activities and prepare reports for management and funders.
· Work collaboratively with other ICV Staff, including the Chief Executive Officer, Administration Team, Policy and Advocacy Lead, and other teams as needed.
· Ensure all engagement practices are culturally safe, trauma-informed, inclusive, and accessible.
Key Selection Criteria:
Technical Expertise
· Demonstrated experience in community engagement, stakeholder relations, or outreach, preferably with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
· Understanding of issues affecting Muslim communities in Australia
· Experience in supporting the delivery of workshops, forums, consultations, or online events.
· Demonstrated ability to use online platforms and social media to support community engagement.
· Experience contributing to the development of community-facing resources such as guides, fact sheets, toolkits, or multimedia content.
Skills and Knowledge
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain respectful relationships.
· Ability to assist with the development and delivery of community information and resources tailored to diverse audiences.
· Good organisational skills, including the ability to support multiple priorities and tasks in a small team environment.
· Capacity to collect, record, and report on engagement activities and outcomes.

Qualifications
· Tertiary qualification in community development, social sciences, communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience in the community sector.
