Job Title:
Grid Connection Manager - Developer
Location:
Sydney or Melbourne
Salary:
$240,000 - $275,000 + Super + 20% STI + LTI
Phillip Riley
has been engaged exclusively to hire a Grid Connection Manager who'll lead grid approvals and compliance across a growing portfolio of renewable energy projects in the NEM. This is a pivotal role within a developer that already operates large-scale assets, with a 4.7 GW pipeline underway and a strategy of progressing grid and planning in parallel to accelerate delivery.
What you'll be doing
* Managing connection applications with AEMO and TNSPs from pre-enquiry through to 5.3.4A/B letters.
* Steering technical and commercial negotiations alongside in-house engineering, legal, and commercial teams.
* Leading the engagement of external grid consultants — tendering, onboarding and overseeing GPS studies, R0/R1/R2 modelling and feasibility work.
* Acting as the main contact point with AEMO, TNSPs, and internal asset management and trading teams.
* Ensuring compliance across the operational portfolio (wind, solar and large-scale battery assets), while also preparing new projects as they reach FID and COD.
* Contributing to long-term strategy — from system strength remediation and grid-forming inverters through to decisions that shape offtake contracts, refinancing and repowering.
The portfolio you'll support
* Multiple
utility-scale wind farms
in the 500–600 MW range.
* Several
battery energy storage projects
from 150 MW through to 600 MW+.
* A pipeline of early-stage projects adding to an already significant operational base (solar, wind and one of the largest batteries in the country).
What we're looking for
* Electrical engineer with 6 + years' experience, including deep exposure to grid connection for renewable assets.
* Background could be from TNSP / Developer/ Consultancy / OEM etc — ideally with hands-on experience leading GPS applications and navigating R0–R2.
* Proficiency with PSCAD, PSS/E or PowerFactory a nice to have – you won't be running any simulations in-house.
* Able to manage high-pressure timelines while also thinking strategically about project risks and opportunities.
* Strong communicator, collaborative by nature, comfortable working across disciplines.
Why this role?
* You'll be directly shaping the grid outcomes of some of Australia's largest renewable projects — not just paper developments, but a mix of operational and advanced pipeline assets.
* The business is led by highly experienced executives with strong track records across the energy sector.
* Culture is collaborative and pragmatic. The team is still lean (around 15 people) but growing fast, meaning your expertise will have visibility and impact across the platform.
* Offices in central Sydney and Melbourne. Expect to be office-based at first, then flexibility as you settle in.
* Work alongside Tier 1 OEMs from an inverter and turbine perspective.
If you want your grid expertise to directly influence some of the largest renewable projects in Australia, this is an opportunity to step into a role with real scale and impact.
