Fast paced, mid sized business with a strong commitment to sustainability is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its inhouse legal team. This is a newly created role designed to support the Head of Legal and offers an excellent opportunity to act as a trusted right hand, working closely with senior leadership and stakeholders across the business while gaining exposure to a broad range of legal work.
The role offers broad experience across commercial agreements, IT and privacy matters, with approximately 50 percent of the role focused on litigation and disputes. This is a great opportunity for a litigation lawyer to move inhouse, or for a Legal Counsel already working inhouse to gain broader experience and more autonomy. Strong litigation and consumer law experience are essential, while exposure to privacy, IT services contracts and broader commercial work will be supported through training and mentoring.
The opportunity will suit a lawyer around 2 to 4 years PQE. The salary is up to $120,000 plus super plus bonus for the right candidate.
Required experience:
• 2 to 4 years PQE
• Strong litigation and disputes experience
• Strong understanding of consumer law
• Prior inhouse experience across privacy, commercial or IT agreements is beneficial but not essential
Responsibilities:
• Take carriage of the organisation's disputes and litigation portfolio, working closely with the Head of Legal and external counsel
• Provide clear, practical advice on consumer law matters, complaints and dispute resolution
• Draft, review and negotiate a range of commercial agreements including IT services, vendor and supplier contracts
• Support privacy related matters, including advising on data handling, compliance and internal processes
• Partner with stakeholders across the business to deliver timely, commercial legal advice
• Support the Head of Legal on broader legal, risk and governance matters as the role evolves
