Role
The Campaigns Officer is a new position, contributing to all areas of Solutions for Climate WA's clean energy and climate advocacy program in Perth. Working closely with team members in WA and nationally, in particular senior staff, the purpose of this role is to support the day to day tasks associated with campaigns including event organising, liaison with community organisations, project coordination, the development and management of a small number of online databases, administration and project tasks. This role is well suited to someone with existing experience and competency in these areas, who wishes to further develop their skills, networks and achievement in an outcomes focused advocacy initiative.

Solutions for Climate WA is a new, public interest climate advocacy project based in WA. We are a project of the Climate Action Network Australia, a network of over 170 Australian climate advocacy organisations. We are committed to accelerating Western Australia's transition to a clean, resilient, and prosperous net zero economy aligned with global climate goals. We advocate for practical solutions that position WA as a global leader in climate solutions.
Climate Action Network Australia (CANA) supports the Australian climate movement to collaborate for greater impact to protect people at home and abroad from climate damage, to safeguard our natural environment, and to build a fair, clean, healthy Australia for everyone. CANA operates nationally and facilitates strategic thinking and campaign collaboration between its member organisations.
Position Details
Hours: Fulltime, Monday-Friday
Remuneration: between $79,136-$84,869 per annum plus superannuation, dependent on experience.
Location: The greater Perth area. Solutions WA works from a serviced office in West Perth.
Reports to: the Solutions WA Senior Manager, Michelle Grady.
Contract period: ongoing subject to funding availability.
Responsibilities
Working with senior staff, the duties of the Campaigns Officer include -
Campaign organising -
* setting up external meetings and events,
* producing and/or sourcing campaign materials including signs, leaflets and information sheets.
Outreach -
* assisting with outreach to external partner groups and community organisations focused on climate advocacy,
Administration -
* organising internal meetings, organising agendas and writing up notes and action points,
* development and maintenance of administrative and supporter databases,
* liaison with the senior administrative staff on payment of invoices and associated administrative matters.
Strategy -
* contributing to the development of campaign strategy and tactics.
Communications -
* time permitting, assisting the communications staff with the maintenance of the program's social media presence and website.
Research -
* time permitting, assist the senior research staff with research tasks when needed,
As a member of the team, contribute to the maintenance of a healthy and safe organisational culture.
As this is a role which includes working with community based/volunteer organisations, some out of office hours work may be required (evenings and/or weekends). TOIL applies as per the CANA policy.
Selection Criteria
* A reasonable amount of experience in a paid and/or voluntary capacity in areas relevant to this role.
* Relevant experience specifically within the advocacy sector, and in particular climate or environment related advocacy, will be an advantage.
* Skilled in -
* core administrative tasks,
* organising events and materials,
* production of written materials for internal and external use,
* mission focused social media communications and day to day website maintenance
* development of information systems/databases
* development and management of networks
* working in teams.
* Proficiency with -
* interpersonal skills and effective communication - written, verbal and listening
* using self-initiative
* working across multiple projects and tasks
* prioritisation of work priorities and use of time management
* problem solving
* team work.
* A general understanding of WA's political environment and how governments operate, and interest in the economic, social and environmental impacts of climate change.
* Experience with supervision - staff &/or volunteers - will be well regarded.
* Comfortable working for an advocacy organisation which seeks to make change.
* Ability to collaborate well in a professional setting.
* Understanding of the importance of respect in the workplace.
* A Class C drivers license.
