With more than 198,000 members from all backgrounds and demographics across 315 affiliated Surf Life Saving Clubs (SLSCs), we represent the largest volunteer movement of its kind in Australia.Since its establishment in 1907, Surf Life Saving has saved over 700,000 lives. In the 2023/24 season, our active members were involved in 8,857 rescues, provided 49,331 first aid treatments, and carried out nearly 2.5 million preventative actions, contributing over 1.46 million volunteer patrol hours. Be a part of something that matters.Description:ResponsibilitiesThis position is integral to our mission, driving forward key initiatives and contributing to the overall success of our team. Your expertise will shape our strategic direction and operational efficiency, directly impacting our innovation, growth, and the maintenance of SLSA's iconic Australian brand.Lead, manager, and develop media and communications content and strategies, increasing brand recognition and trust amongst communities,Oversee and manger all day-today Public Relations activities to enhance the reputation of the SLS brand,Manager both incoming and outgoing media, crisis response and proactive pitches in conjunction with external agency,Lead and develop the Public Relations / Media team and external resources, enabling the delivery of stakeholder requirements while creating a positive, collaborative working environment,Ensure content is planned, designed, and executed accurately for every campaign,Ensure consistent brand messaging across all public relations and marketing materials,Oversight of external broadcast communications to the general public, and key groups such as SLS Membership,Develop crisis communication plans and respond to reputational threats in a timely and effective manner,Develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists. media outlets, and influencers,Monitor media coverage and sentiment, identifying opportunities and risks,Act as the primary point of contact with external PR ConsultantsPlan and execute press conferences and media events, and influence collaborations,Be the first escalation point for all team members, to resolve or assist with complex issues,Skills and Experiences:Who You AreOur ideal candidate will have:Qualifications:Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent relevant experience in the areas of Communications and/or Public RelationsDemonstrated experience in a similar positionDemonstrated experience within a high-profile brand, NFP, sports, tourism, government or membership organisation with a federated structure is highly desirableSkills and Attributes:Demonstrated experience in Public Relations and Media Management within a high-profile organisation with a complex stakeholder matrixExcellent written and verbal communication skillsPrevious experience managing a team of PR, media or Communications specialistsStrategic thinker and problem-solverAbility to multitask and work effectively under pressureAbility to manage multiple stakeholders with conflicting interestsProficiency in PR tools, media monitoring software, and social media platformsSLSA Benefits And CultureSLSA is committed to ensuring all employees have a work life balance within their role.Hybrid working model with opportunities to work from home and from our Surf Life Saving Australia offices.Flexible work arrangements and a healthy work-life balance.A supportive and inclusive work environment where your contributions are valued.Competitive salary and opportunities for career development and advancement.Chance to make a meaningful impact.As Surf Life Saving is a not-for-profit organisation, you will have access to salary packaging.Ready to Make a Difference?If you're ready to join a dynamic team and contribute to SLSA, we want to hear from you!
