Central Veterinary Surgery is looking for a Cert IV Veterinary Nurse to join our privately owned mixed animal clinic in Mareeba, Far North Queensland.
We are a busy rural practice with a varied caseload including small animal medicine and surgery, cattle work, equine work and remote community animal health programs across Cape York, the Gulf, the Torres Strait and surrounding regions.
This role would suit a nurse who enjoys genuine hands-on nursing rather than a narrow or repetitive clinic role. The successful applicant will be involved in surgical nursing, anaesthetic monitoring, hospital care, patient preparation and recovery, pathology, client communication and day-to-day clinic nursing.
A key part of the role will also include assisting with remote veterinary trips. This may involve travel away from Mareeba, field-based surgical nursing, anaesthetic support, patient handling, equipment preparation, stock organisation, cleaning and pack-down, and working in more basic or variable field conditions.
Duties may include:
* Surgical nursing and anaesthetic monitoring
* Patient preparation, recovery and inpatient care
* Pathology, blood collection and laboratory work
* Radiography and imaging support
* Consult room and procedure assistance
* Client communication and discharge instructions
* Stock control, ordering and equipment maintenance
* Assisting with remote community veterinary programs
* Packing, cleaning and logistics support before and after remote trips
* General nursing support in a busy mixed animal clinic
We are looking for someone who:
* Holds a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
* Has good practical nursing skills
* Is confident, calm and reliable
* Communicates well with clients and the veterinary team
* Is willing to assist with remote veterinary work when required
* Can work practically in both clinic and field conditions
* Has a positive attitude and works well as part of a team
Experience is preferred, but attitude, reliability and willingness to learn are just as important.
