Microbio Ltd, based in Brisbane, Australia, is a biotech startup focused to change the course of pathogen detection. Our novel diagnostic method combines the latest advances in bioinformatics, genomics and molecular microbiology to deliver rapid pathogen detection using qPCR.

Developed in collaboration with Australian clinicians, Microbio’s flagship product InfectID-BSI has been designed with clinical decision-making in mind, to help solve the most pressing challenges facing healthcare today; improving the outcomes of sepsis patients while minimising the development of antimicrobial resistant (AMR) organisms.

Purpose Statement

The Field Application Specialist (FAS) will assist the commercial team in driving product sales through implementation and evaluation of Microbio’s products. As the primary liaison between our customers and Microbio’s commercial team the FAS will be responsible for pre- and post-sales support and implementation.

Key Responsibilities

- Providing scientific/technical consultation to customers in partnership with the sales team.
- Providing troubleshooting assistance to customers in partnership with internal stakeholders.
- Delivering scientific/technical presentations for internal or customer-facing events.
- Leading hands-on product and software trainings in customer laboratories.
- Providing feedback and intel from customer interactions to the sales team to assist with the sales process.
- Reporting on relevant activities in the field on a regular basis to internal stakeholders.
- Monitoring technical trends and competitive products in the genomics markets.
- Coordinating loaner demo equipment and reagents needed for performing customer evaluations.
- Assisting the Regulatory Affairs and Quality team with product feedback and post-market activities.
- Proactively partnering with sales and internal stakeholders to ensure customer support needs are achieved in a timely manner and appropriately documented.
- Supporting product specialists within our distributor network with training.
- Additional responsibilities and opportunities may include:
- Being a key contributor in the promotion of marketing activities at marketing/sales events and/or regional/national scientific conferences.

- Providing internal product training to peers and new hires.

- Evaluating and providing feedback from customers to internal stakeholders on products prior to and after their launch.

- Interfacing with internal stakeholders to identify and help develop new applications and products.

- Creating and/or contributing to scientific white papers, posters, and/or oral presentations at internal or external scientific conferences.

- Keep CRM system up to date.
- Other duties as assigned by the direct line manager and appropriate to the role.

Job Qualifications

- Minimum bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Microbiology, Biotechnology or Bio-Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a commercial and/or clinical support role required
- It is expected that the applicant will have significant hands-on technical expertise in DNA/RNA extraction and qPCR.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including solid interpersonal and organizational
- Must be able to work well independently and as part of an integrated/cross-functional team
- Industrial experience, specifically providing pre-/post-sales technical support for a field sales organization is an advantage.
- Requires flexibility in working hours and availability to travel for business both nationally and internationally
- Demonstrated ability to assist executive management with any additional work as needed
- Have a strong work ethic and customer-centric mindset
- Ability to meet tight deadlines, have resilience and the ability to work with a considerable degree of autonomy (following completion of appropriate training and competencies).
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office required, including Microsoft Teams.
- Experience and proficiency with CRM preferred.
- Fluency in English is required; fluency in additional languages is a plus.
- Willing to travel up to 50%.
