Based in Canberra, the department works at the centre of government, partnering closely with stakeholders across industry, academia and other jurisdictions.Due to increased policy workload, the department is seeking multiple APS5 and APS6 Policy Officers to support several priority work programs.
Your new roleYour new roles will see you working as part of a collaborative policy team, contributing to the development and implementation of government policy, programs and advice. These positions are available on a 12‐month labour hire or non‐ongoing contract, depending on candidate suitability and preference.
Depending on level and experience, responsibilities may include:
Researching, analysing and drafting policy advice, briefs and correspondenceSupporting policy development, implementation and review activitiesContributing to ministerial, cabinet and executive-level documentationEngaging with internal and external stakeholders to progress policy outcomesMonitoring issues, risks and emerging trends relevant to the policy spaceSupporting project management, coordination and reporting activitiesWorking collaboratively across teams to meet tight timeframes and prioritiesAPS6 roles will also include providing strategic input, mentoring junior staff and contributing to complex policy issues.
What you'll need to succeedTo be successful in these roles, you will have:
Experience working in Australian Government policy environments at APS5 and/or APS6 level (or equivalent)Strong written communication skills with the ability to draft clear, concise policy adviceSound analytical skills and the ability to interpret legislation, data and stakeholder inputExperience engaging with a range of stakeholders in a professional mannerThe ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‐paced environmentA collaborative approach with the ability to work autonomously when requiredA current Baseline security clearance or the ability to obtain oneExperience across complex or sensitive policy areas will be highly regarded.
