At DP World, we believe a diverse team is a strong team. We are looking for motivated people from all backgrounds, including women, to join our Fremantle operations as a Casual or "Supplementary Stevedore".
Our workforce is readily available 24/7 to provide our customers with seamless access to terminal facilities in Australia around the clock. In this this role you will be required to work shift work, across 7 days a week. You will be notified of your shifts 1 day in advance by calling an automated phone system or checking online. You will be initially employed on a casual basis with no guarantee of shifts.
As a General Stevedore you will work outdoors. You will perform three main tasks:
* Lashing – This is the use of heavy rigging equipment to secure shipping containers to the deck of a ship. Due to the physical requirements of this work, you will be required to demonstrate you can safely lift steel lashing bars (up to approx 23kg) and pass a 'lashing bar lifting test' prior to employment as part of a broader pre-employment medical and physical assessment.
* ITV (internal transfer vehicles) – Driving automatic internal road trucks with 40ft capacity from the Quay Cranes to positions within the terminal for discharge and the opposite for load.
* Pins – This is the locking and unlocking of heavy twist locks, which secure containers together and to the deck of a ship to prevent movement while at sea. This work is performed while containers are on the ITV trailers, where the ITV is stopped in a designated area set up for the safe conduct of these operations.
All new hires will complete a two-week induction and training program covering core tasks such as lashing and pins, with ITV training provided at a later stage. You don't need to come from a heavy industry background – we provide comprehensive, ongoing training and skills development to support your success in the role.
Key Requirements
* Maritime Security Clearance, and candidates must be able to obtain or hold an MSIC card.
* Australian residency and working rights prior to application for this role or their application will not be shortlisted.
* Due to the operational requirements, successful candidates must be able to maintain regular and ongoing availability to work locally in Fremantle.
Qualifications, skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you will have the following experience, skills and qualifications:
* A current and valid driver's licence
* A current and valid forklift licence (LF)
* Experience driving heavy machinery.
* Experience with shift work (day, evening and night shifts).
* Experience with physical work or labouring.
* Experience in heavy industry such as warehousing, transport and logistics, construction, mining, or manufacturing
Please include a cover letter and resume to address the key requirements, qualifications, skills and necessary to be successful in this role.
