Position Overview
We are seeking an Aboriginal Project Coordinator to ensure that Aboriginal people and communities are appropriately represented and that research is conducted in a culturally safe manner. This role supports the culturally safe implementation of the ISAAC (Invasive Streptococcus A: Antibiotic Prophylaxis for Contact Management) Trial, a national study on preventing invasive Group A Strep (iGAS).
This position is key to ensuring Aboriginal leadership and governance throughout the trial, including providing cultural guidance, overseeing ethics and engagement, co-designing culturally appropriate materials, building community relationships, and developing educational resources on iGAS and skin health.
Key Responsibilities
* Establish and lead the ISAAC Trial Aboriginal Community Advisory Committee.
* Provide leadership for the Aboriginal components of the trial.
* Develop and deliver workshops and training with Aboriginal health services.
* Offer cultural guidance to research and clinical staff involved in recruitment and engagement.
* Contribute to knowledge translation activities ensuring accessibility and understanding for Aboriginal communities.
* Support Aboriginal participants during recruitment as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
* Experience in planning, managing, or coordinating clinical research in Aboriginal communities.
* Excellent communication skills for engaging diverse stakeholders.
* Flexibility and adaptability to project demands.
* Experience in delivering health information in a culturally appropriate way.
* Community engagement and governance experience.
* Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively.
* Goal setting, multitasking, and meeting deadlines.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Qualifications
* Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., in science, health science, biomedical science, or nursing).
* Understanding of Aboriginal governance and ethical research practices.
