Lawyer, Medical Indemnity - Lander & Rogers
Our medical indemnity insurance team is growing, presenting an excellent opportunity for a Lawyer seeking the next step in their career. The role involves providing general insurance clients with legal advice on medical indemnity, health law litigation, and related inquiries.
Responsibilities
- Managing medical negligence litigation as part of a team, including attending formal mediations and informal settlement conferences
- Managing coronial inquiries and disciplinary proceedings against health entities and individual practitioners
- Providing advice to insurers on cover, predominantly professional indemnity and medical indemnity insurance
- Reviewing medical and health records
- Preparing briefs for Counsel and expert witnesses
- Drafting court documents, settlement deeds and Medical Panel referrals
- Preparing advice including on indemnity, liability, prospects, quantum, reserves and strategy
- Researching and providing legal analysis
- Assisting with preparation and presenting on matters related to medical indemnity and health law litigation
- Coaching and mentoring junior lawyers, graduates and seasonal clerks
- Retaining and building business
About You (Qualifications and Skills)
- 2+ years PAE (medical or health experience preferred)
- Tertiary qualification in Law and a current Practising Certificate for the relevant jurisdiction
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and effective stakeholder management abilities
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships for effective client service and outcomes
- Strong critical reasoning and investigative skills with lateral thinking
- Highly organized with ability to plan and prioritise
- Proficiency in conducting presentations and meetings with groups of varying sizes
- Identify risks and comply with group risk management protocols
- Willingness and ability to learn and develop new skills
- Problem-solving with appropriate escalation when needed
- Professional, client-focused and ethical approach
- Resilient, able to remain calm under pressure
