We are seeking a motivated technical engineer to support experimental efforts and development within our laboratory in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing installation and maintenance of complex subsystems, working with measurement, design, and operations teams across multiple disciplines.
We are looking for an individual with a broad range of practical skills and experience across areas including cryogenics, vacuum, electrical, electronics, controls, optics and mechanical.
This role will involve operating high-end lab equipment, supporting testing and characterization of RF components at cryogenic temperatures, assembling and maintaining cryogenic setups, and quality control checks and data logging.
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of practical experience in a similar role within a scientific or advanced engineering environment, experience working within multidisciplinary teams, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:
* Operate high-end lab equipment including cryostats, vacuum systems, vacuum pumps, hand tools etc.
* Support testing and characterization of RF components at cryogenic temperatures.
* Assemble and maintain cryogenic setups including cryostats, vacuum pumps, and control equipment.
* Conduct quality control checks and data logging.
* Develop and execute best practice procedures.
* Identify and rectify faults in lab hardware (in Australia and worldwide), including out-of-hours work where required.
* Plan maintenance and upgrades of core test equipment to ensure maximum uptime.
* Supervise interns / apprentices and contractors.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
* Electronics assembly.
* High-level soldering skills.
* General mechanical assembly and fitting.
* Effective communication with electrical and manufacturing contractors.
* Proficiency in computer software for hardware debug and data logging.
* Experience setting up computer/hardware networks.
* International project experience involving travel to remote locations for install/maintenance.
This role is based onsite in Brisbane, however, we expect this individual to travel up to 20% of their time outside Australia as required.
