About the Role
* Cooking, baking, pastry cooking or butchering
* Assisting with supervision of cooks and kitchen hands
* Following food hygiene and health and safety procedures
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with menu preparation and ensure adequate supplies are available for service
* Follow good hygiene and health and safety procedures
* Liaise with front of house employees regarding the availability of menu items, additions to the menu and any relevant changes
* Supervise the kitchen in the absence of more senior chefs, delegating duties and responsibilities as necessary
* Prepare and present menu items to high level maintaining excellent presentation standards
* Produce items within the cost margins specified
* Follow the first in first out policy
* Work with and coordinate the work of cooks and apprentices in the preparation and production of food
* Keep all working areas clean and tidy
* Ensure all equipment is maintained, serviced and cleaned
* Liaise with the stewarding team to ensure cleanliness and required kitchen equipment par levels are met
* Openly communicate with staff ensuring all relevant information is passed on
* Report any problems to the senior Chef in charge
* Assist with the facilitation of on-the-job training programs to meet brand and service standards
* Perform any other duties and requested by the employer
Skills & Experience
* Has achieved competency in the level of cooking and supervisory skills required for the position of Commis Chef
* Demonstrate a high standard of food preparation, food presentation and food service
* Maintain current Food Safety training and refresh annually
* Attend and actively participate in training programs as required by the employer
