About the organisation
An Australian Government agency is seeking a senior adviser to support a major Australia Indonesia economic cooperation agenda linked to a free trade agreement implementation program. This is a high trust role operating at an EL1 equivalent level, supporting governance, work program delivery, risk, and stakeholder engagement across Australia and Indonesia.
This is a contract opportunity based in Canberra, working from a secure Commonwealth office environment, with ad hoc travel to Indonesia as program needs require (likely 3 to 4 times per year).
The role
You will help drive delivery of an annual work program, coordinate high level committee processes, and keep multiple stakeholders aligned across government, industry, and delivery partners. You will provide secretariat style support across senior governance forums and contribute to planning, reporting, and risk oversight.
Key focus areas include:
* Coordinating annual work program planning, including activities, budgets, and reporting inputs
* Secretariat support, coordination, meeting preparation, minutes and follow up actions for senior governance committees
* Stakeholder engagement across Australian and Indonesian government counterparts, industry and business reference groups
* Coordinating with an external managing contractor delivery team to ensure delivery is on track
* Contributing to quarterly and annual reporting, including outcomes, risks, lessons learned, and progress against indicators
* Maintaining a practical approach to risk management, safeguards, and fiduciary oversight, including quarterly risk register updates and early escalation where required
What you will need to succeed
To be successful, you will bring a strong background leading complex programs in trade, investment, economic development, or adjacent policy environments, with confidence operating in a multi stakeholder setting.
You will ideally have:
* Senior program delivery experience, including coordination, governance, and committee secretariat support
* Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills across government and industry, with clear, credible communication
* Strong risk and compliance discipline, comfortable working with formal assurance and reporting frameworks
* Experience delivering outcomes across cross functional teams, including external delivery partners
* Monitoring and evaluation literacy, including integrating inclusion and climate considerations into planning and reporting
* Experience engaging in Australia Southeast Asia contexts, and comfort working across cultural and institutional settings
* Bahasa Indonesia is viewed favourably, but not essential
Clearance and travel, please read carefully
* Security clearance: NV2 is required, or you must be eligible and willing to obtain NV2.
* Travel: This role will require travel to Indonesia on an ad hoc basis, sometimes at short notice depending on program needs.
* You must be comfortable working in a secure Commonwealth environment, following information management, privacy, and security protocols.
