Lead governance, risk and compliance in a community-controlled organisation making a real difference
Wirraka Maya Health Services Aboriginal Corporation (WMHSAC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Port Hedland and is seeking a full-time experienced Senior Governance Officer to provide high-level governance, risk and compliance leadership across the organisation.
This is a senior role reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and working closely with the Board and its Committees.
It is ideally suited to a governance professional who is confident operating at executive and board level and who values strong systems, accountability and cultural integrity.
About the Organisation
Wirraka Maya Health Services Aboriginal Corporation (WMHSAC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service established by community, for community, to address the health, social and cultural needs of Aboriginal people across the Pilbara region.
The service provides integrated primary health care, social and emotional wellbeing programs, prevention initiatives and education pathways, delivered by a multidisciplinary workforce committed to improving health outcomes for community.

The Role
The role is responsible for overseeing WMHSAC's governance framework, risk management systems and compliance obligations.
You will provide high-level secretariat support to the Board and its Committees, maintain governance systems and registers, and lead the development and implementation of governance, risk and compliance frameworks across the organisation.
This role requires a high level of professionalism, discretion and autonomy, and the ability to balance technical governance expertise with practical, solutions-focused support.
Key Responsibilities
Provide high-level secretariat services to the Board and its Committees, including agendas, minutes, briefing papers and forward planning.
Coordinate Annual General Meetings and community consultation meetings.
Maintain governance registers, including member, action, resolution, complaints, contract and risk registers.
Lead board inductions and maintain the Board Manual.
Develop, implement and review governance, risk management and compliance frameworks.
Oversee policy development, review schedules and organisational compliance calendars.
Support governance reporting, including contributions to annual reports.
Monitor and report on organisational risks and escalate high-risk matters to the Board.
Ensure governance and risk management practices are embedded across the organisation.
Support quality improvement, accreditation standards and continuous improvement activities.
Build effective internal and external stakeholder relationships and represent the organisation as required.
About You
Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in governance, risk or compliance roles
Strong experience supporting Boards and senior executives
Demonstrated knowledge of governance and risk management within a not-for-profit or regulated environment
Proven ability to develop and review policies, procedures and governance frameworks
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and exercise sound judgement
A commitment to professionalism, integrity and continuous improvement
Current National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain)
Experience working with Aboriginal organisations, community-controlled entities or under the CATSI Act will be highly regarded.
