Undergraduate Research Opportunities

We are seeking undergraduate students to participate in a research program that provides hands-on experience with world-leading researchers. This opportunity is ideal for those interested in pursuing a career in science or technology.

The National Collections and Marine Infrastructure (NCMI) unit manages collections of plants and animals of Australian and international significance, hosts and contributes to the Atlas of Living Australia, manages the Environomics Future Science Platform and operates the Marine National Facility on behalf of Australia.


About NCMI

NCMI is responsible for managing a range of programs that provide vital resources for research. These programs deliver evidence-based support for biosecurity, conservation, and the development of sustainable land and marine management systems.


Available Projects

We have 7 projects available across a range of disciplines including computing and IT, earth and environmental sciences, mechanical engineering, and maritime or data-related fields. For more information and contacts details, please see our project list.


Eligibility

To be eligible for this opportunity, you must:

* Be enrolled in an undergraduate course at an Australian tertiary institution
* Have completed at least 1 year (full-time equivalent) of an undergraduate course at the commencement of the studentship
* Have a strong academic record (credit average or higher) and/or known capability in the field
* Be interested in pursuing a research career in science or technology
* Be available to undertake a learning and development placement for 8 to 12 weeks over the summer vacation period
