The Platforms & Application Development (P&AD) Branch is the application development engine for the AEC, enabling federal and industrial elections through a range of applications. It supports the AEC with application development across many varied technology development platforms such as .NET, Java, Mainframe and some legacy. The branch is committed to building the agency's information technology capability by providing resilient, modern and secure systems informed by data and insights, and to upskill teams to develop innovative new products and services.
The P&AD branch is divided into three sections: IT Roll and Event Applications, IT Applications Development and Application Platform Management.
The Opportunity
This role offers an exciting opportunity to build a strong technical career within a supportive team that makes significant contribution to the delivery of electoral events and day to day operations through an improved maturity of AEC's systems. The Mainframe Technical lead supports the Team Leader within the IT Roll and Event Applications Section of the P&AD Branch. It supports the day-to-day development, maintenance, enhancement and support of applications in the AEC's ICT environment, including participating in section planning for short term tasks and contributing to strategic planning for longer term initiatives.
This role is a senior technical role and is responsible for undertaking work that is moderately complex to complex and/or sensitive in nature. You will work under limited direction, utilising your expertise and knowledge in designing software applications to meet the AEC's needs. You will also work in partnership with business stakeholders and other technical teams, ensuring deadlines are consistently met and that a high standard of technical and design documentation is provided.
To excel you'll have:
* Detailed knowledge of and experience in the design and development software solutions
* Ability to develop and maintain high quality, robust and scalable enterprise level software solutions using ADABAS Natural.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in successfully setting priorities and delivering quality results on time and on budget.
* Proven ability to communicate effectively whilst anticipating stakeholder needs and expectations across a geographically dispersed network.
* Proven analytical abilities with the ability to propose and facilitate change and contribute to business improvement strategies and doctrine.
* Ability to manage staff while developing capabilities, encouraging career development and promoting professionalism.
* Demonstrated personal integrity whilst achieving results within legislative and policy parameters.
* Knowledge of, or ability to, quickly gain knowledge of Australian electoral law and practice
* Knowledge of, or ability to, quickly gain knowledge of the Commonwealth frameworks, including ICT frameworks.
* Expertise in Natural software version upgrades and Natural One editor.
Additional responsibilities during an Electoral Event
* Perform support functions outside of standard bandwidth hours as directed.
* AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
