Primary objective
Provide leadership to the Sustainable Energy Development (SED) Division to deliver on the accountabilities of the Office of
Sustainable Energy.
Context statement
The SED Division within the Department of Mining and Energy develops, advocates and implements electricity industry and
sustainable energy policies, strategies and reforms to support secure, reliable and affordable energy for all Territorians.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide executive strategic leadership to the Sustainable Energy Division.
2. Lead complex electricity and sustainable energy reforms, including developing and implementing policies, strategies, and
reforms to rebuild the economy and deliver targeted Northern Territory Government strategic outcomes.
3. Drive facilitation of private sector projects in the electricity and sustainable energy sectors.
4. Lead and provide high level representation at a range of national, inter-governmental, and across government forums
and working parties.
5. Establish and sustain strong networks and partnerships with government agencies and external stakeholders.
6. Lead a multi-disciplinary team, work interdependently, and exercise initiative, flexibility, political astuteness, problem
solving skills and sound judgement based on sound economic, engineering and industry growth principles.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven executive leadership and resource management expertise, covering strategic planning, policy and project
development and delivery in electricity markets and/or the sustainable energy sector.
2. Proven executive level strategic, conceptual and analytical skills, with demonstrated success in shaping strategic direction,
delivering sectoral reforms and achieving organisational outcomes.
3. Proven executive level experience in developing, implementing and evaluating strategic economic, electricity and/or
sustainable energy market policies and initiatives through solid understanding of the local and national industry operating
environments.
1. Exceptional written skills, interpersonal and communication skills, and attention to detail.
2. Demonstrated high standard of personal motivation to work effectively under pressure, manage a high performing team,
set priorities, solve problems, make decisions, meet deadlines and respond to complex problems.
6. Demonstrated ability to distil complex industry issues into simpler concepts and language suitable for the development
of evidence based pragmatic and achievable electricity and sustainable energy policies, strategies and plans.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in economics, electrical engineering, law, public policy, or other relevant disciplines.
