We are seeking dedicated and communityminded individuals to join our team as Food Fair Volunteers. This role is central to the success of our community food hub, which exists to reduce food waste and ensure affordable, dignified access to food for people in need.
In this customerfocused role, you will help operate our lowcost grocery store, provide crisis food support, and create a welcoming, respectful environment for all who visit. Many of our customers face complex personal challenges, and your empathy, reliability, and willingness to listen will make a meaningful difference in their day.
By volunteering with Food Fair, you become part of a missiondriven team working to enhance food security, strengthen community connections, and minimise waste through the redistribution of surplus food.
Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with Food Fair staff and volunteers to promote a welcoming, vibrant community hub
- Greet and engage customers as they enter the shop
- Assist with membership enquiries and registrations
- Provide crisis food hampers to individuals and families in need
- Restock shelves and support inventory management
- Build rapport with regular customers, offering respectful and compassionate service
- Operate the register and support customers throughout their shopping experience (training provided)
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community donors, including those contributing pantry items, homegrown produce, and homemade goods

Food Fair is open Tuesday to Friday between 10:30am and 4:00pm. Volunteering is flexible and rosterbased, allowing you to contribute at times that work best for you, with no required minimum commitment.
