ABOUT THE ROLE
Blacktree is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our growing engineering team. They will work across acquisition, integration, and sustainment projects —contributing to the design, testing, and delivery of advanced communications systems. This is a hands-on, learning-rich role that offers exposure to the full engineering lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities include:
* Support the development and maintenance of interface, system, and subsystem specifications, ensuring traceability from requirements to verification.
* Contribute to system design, modelling, analysis, and selection of hardware/software components.
* Assist with establishing configuration baselines and managing engineering changes.
* Develop and deliver verification and validation (V&V) artefacts, including test plans, procedures, and reports.
* Provide onsite and remote engineering support to manufacturing, assembly, integration, testing, installation, and maintenance.
* Support safety and technical risk management programs by identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks and hazards.
* Development of safety artefacts such as hazard logs, and hazard analysis reports and safety case reports.
* Assist with Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) activities, including reliability, maintainability, and availability analysis.
* Conduct engineering and obsolescence investigations and prepare technical reports.
* Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and clients to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
* Contribute to bids, tenders, and proposals to help secure future work.
* Be available for domestic and occasional international travel.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
Blacktree Technology invites applications from candidates who can satisfy most or all of the following criteria:
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Systems, Communications, Mechatronics, Aerospace or related discipline.
* Minimum 3 years' professional engineering experience.
* Experience with systems safety and/or verification and validation.
* Large Australian Defence engineering and technology program experience, or exposure.
* Innovative, resourceful, adaptable, and thrives in dynamic environments, can think critically and craft solutions amidst uncertainty and limited supervision.
We will consider a graduate with just 3 of years relevant experience or a seasoned Engineer with extensive experience in the Defence sector.
Due to the security requirements of this position, to apply for this role candidates must be Australian Citizens who currently hold (or be eligible to obtain) a Defence Security Clearance at NV1 or above.
