Details: The Planning and Advisory team maximises the Territory’s opportunity to deliver quality, on-time and on-budget infrastructure by providing early guidance on business case planning, governance and foundational analysis through early involvement in infrastructure planning and business case development. The team engages at the front-end of infrastructure initiatives to assist with support the development of projects that are appropriately scoped, aligned with ACT Government frameworks, and supported by robust evidence to inform decision‑making. It also supports measurement and evaluation activities such as post-implementation reviews and benefits realisation.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, capable and organised individual to join our team as Assistant Director, Infrastructure Development. The role is primarily analytical and communicative, with a focus on governance alignment, supporting delivery groups to understand how to meet government expectations, produce the evidence base required for high-quality business cases, and measure the outcomes from their projects. The position also contributes prepares materials for senior executives, Ministers and Cabinet through established reporting lines.
As Assistant Director, you will:
* Contribute to the preparation of clear, high-quality written advice for executive decision-making, through established reporting lines, on project development, governance, risk and assurance, including business case consideration.
* Provide support to delivery groups with foundational analysis and governance requirements for emerging Infrastructure Canberra projects, and support governance and assurance activities across planning, development and measurement phases
* Provide advisory support on business case drafting, helping delivery groups shape accurate and defensible documents once foundational work is complete.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships across Government, documenting key discussions and outcomes.
* Contribute to the culture of high performance and inclusivity within the team, developing skills and seeking resources and support required to deliver analysis, assessment and advice across complex operational and policy domains.
* Contribute to business unit capability improvements and delivering small projects or initiatives under direction.

* Relevant tertiary qualifications complementary to the role: for example, financial, economics, business, public policy, planning or related fields.
* Experience supporting project or program development business case development, potentially including funding submissions and governance processes in a government or corporate setting.
Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately until 30 June 2026 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
