Primary objective
With a high level of autonomy, provide jurisdiction wide out-of-hours response to urgent or critical issues which relate to community-based
offenders.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. As a statutory officer, demonstrate skills and experience in supervising a caseload of offenders including high risk offenders, complying with
legislation and Department policy and procedures.
2. Respond to urgent or critical situations which occur out of office hours which involve offenders in the community; manage deliberate
breaches of electronic monitoring and other conditions by offenders; respond to positive alcohol and drug tests and/or curfew breaches;
and follow up responses to ensure Court and Parole conditions are adhered to.
1. Action, monitor and record out of office hours offender breaches and provide timely reports and updates to all relevant stakeholders during
the initial response and follow up activity to support informed decision making.
1. Work independently with no direct supervision to manage and escalate risk in a timely manner and reprioritise workload as required, manage
risk in conjunction with Police, and delegate tasks to Compliance Officers or other staff as required.
1. Contribute to the development of electronic monitoring policy and procedures to enable the correct and appropriate use of electronic
monitoring equipment and undertake interpretation of information entered on the system.
1. Monitor, review, and produce various reports on jurisdiction use of electronic monitoring to ensure program integrity.
2. When capacity allows, prepare statutory reports for the courts, Parole Board and Commissioner NTCS and/or review assessments, plans,
and caseloads developed by other Probation and Parole Officers and provide feedback as appropriate.
1. The Evening Shift roster includes provision for on-call to cover overnight and weekend out of office hours.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Certificate IV in Correctional Practice or recognised equivalent.
2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide accurate information, influence others, manage and escalate
risk, and prepare statutory written reports, often within tight time constraints.
3. Demonstrated experience in risk management and demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of electronic monitoring equipment.
4. Demonstrated prioritisation and co-ordination skills with the ability to perform effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, maintain
confidentiality and deal with sensitive issues in an appropriate and professional manner.
5. Demonstrated understanding and application of legislation, policies, and procedures.
6. Demonstrated administration skills and proficiency in the use of a variety of computer applications and databases for research, record
keeping and document production.
7. Demonstrated high level of proven initiative and self-motivation to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
8. Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to Aboriginal cultural issues with the ability to interact effectively with people of diverse
cultures.
Desirable
1. Completion of studies in a related field or currently studying in a related field (Criminal justice, counselling, sociology, psychology, law, or any
other relevant studies).

are subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Appointments to this vacancy will be on an ongoing basis as an AO6 Probation and Parole Officer
with placement within the Rostered Team to perform duties on shift work arrangements. The shift work placement will be for a period of up to
two years after which you may be transferred to day work (which does not attract shift penalties) within the Casuarina or Palmerston Office and
is subject to any earlier transfer arising under section 35 of the Public Sector Employment and Management Act.
