We’re supporting major Defence ICT programs and are seeking experienced Systems Engineers (NV1 or above) to provide technical leadership across complex, multi‑domain environments. These roles span end‑to‑end systems engineering, solution architecture, and systems integration to deliver secure, fit‑for‑purpose capability.
All of the roles are being offered as long term day rate contracts and will be based on site in Canberra.
Due to the nature of the work only candidates that are based in Canberra (or willing to relocate there at your own cost) and hold NV1 or above clearance can be considered.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll play a key role in shaping, governing and assuring Defence ICT solutions, including:
* Leading development of target and transitional architectures, aligned to Defence enterprise architecture and security constraints
* Defining integration strategies, interface management approaches and technical roadmaps across applications, networks, platforms and security components
* Supporting the full systems engineering lifecycle — requirements capture, traceability, design, build, test and acceptance
* Planning and facilitating technical working groups and design reviews (SRR/PDR/CDR), driving decisions and resolving technical issues
* Providing technical guidance to delivery teams and suppliers, including evaluation of COTS/GOTS options and management of technical debt
* Advising on verification and validation, acceptance criteria, test strategy and evidence required for accreditation
* Reviewing and assuring supplier deliverables for quality, completeness and compliance
* Managing technical risks and issues, impact assessments and mitigation strategies
* Collaborating with cyber, security, safety, operational and sustainment stakeholders to ensure non‑functional requirements are met
* Supporting acquisition activities including tender evaluation inputs, SoWs, acceptance artefacts and transition‑to‑sustainment planning
“The Systems Engineer is responsible for end-to-end systems engineering, solution architecture and systems integration activities to deliver fit-for-purpose Defence ICT capabilities.”

* Extensive experience delivering complex ICT systems across large programs
* Strong background in systems engineering and systems integration.
* Proven capability in requirements management, traceability and engineering governance
* Experience defining integration approaches and producing artefacts such as ICDs and integration plans
* Solid understanding of V&V, acceptance evidence and accreditation processes
* Excellent stakeholder engagement, facilitation and communication skills
* Ability to work in secure environments and handle sensitive information appropriately
“Extensive experience in systems engineering and ICT solution delivery on large, complex programs, including integration across multiple technologies and suppliers.”
Desirable
* Defence ICT acquisition experience (tender evaluation, contract deliverables, acceptance)
* Familiarity with ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, TOGAF or equivalent frameworks
* Experience delivering into classified environments, including ISM‑aligned security design
* Exposure to enterprise networks, identity and access management, endpoint platforms or cloud/hybrid architectures
* Experience with DOORS/Jama, CATIA, Jira/Confluence
