The opportunities we are offering
IP Australia is a unique and innovative Australian government agency that works with Australians to help them protect their inventions, brands, designs, and plant varieties through the administration of patents, trade marks, designs, and plant breeder’s rights: their Intellectual Property (IP). We have a strong sense of purpose, ensuring Australians benefit from great ideas.
We thrive on innovation harnessed by the diversity of the minds and lived experiences of our staff and are committed to building sustainable employment outcomes with and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. IP Australia recognises that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have made and will continue to make extraordinary contributions to Australian culture, economy and science. We aim to promote and support our vision of ‘To reconcile is to restore or resolve. IP Australia acknowledges the past and recognises the rich contributions to innovation that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have made to Australia throughout 60,000 years of continuing lore and history as the nation’s first innovators'.
We have set up an Indigenous Knowledge (IK) project which explores how the IP system can support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The IK Project continues to look at how Australia’s intellectual property system can help support the cultural integrity and economic potential of IK held by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Ensuring Indigenous voices are at the forefront of policy development is a fundamental principle that guides our work.
IP Australia is seeking expressions of interest from motivated and driven Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to fill a range of roles across our agency. We will use the register to fill vacancies in two ways:
1. to fill temporary employment opportunities, or
2. to offer temporary or permanent employment opportunities to current APS employees.
We provide a supportive environment where all employees can flourish and thrive. We encourage and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff to participate in cultural obligations, events, and cerebrations.
Our Indigenous Employee Network (IEN) aligns with the objectives of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). It provides support for members to grow relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff, and gain mentoring and guidance on working in the public sector. The IEN is open to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff. Our aim is to present a valuable cultural lens in support of our reconciliation agenda, and specialist advice for a wide range of Indigenous IP issues and policy work.
While working at IP Australia, you will be supported to create and develop a dynamic career that best fits your aspirations and will be provided with coaching and training and development to help you achieve your employment goals. You will have access to flexible working arrangements and be offered an attractive remuneration package that includes a generous superannuation scheme, flexible work options and multiple leave options including paid maternity and parental leave, where applicable.
Flexible working arrangements: IP Australia embraces flexibility, including hours and location. Most of our roles can be done from anywhere in Australia, as long as you have a reliable internet connection and an appropriate office set-up. We have offices in Canberra (Ngunnawal Country) and Melbourne (Naarm Country) for employees who are located within a reasonable distance to the office and most employees work a mixture of days in the office and days from home. Employees who are not located near an office, work completely remotely.
