Senior Lecturer (Speciality Lead, Primary Care and Rural Generalism)

Salary: $144,512 - $166,354 + clinical loading + super

Curtin University is seeking an experienced General Practitioner and medical educator to join Curtin Medical School as Senior Lecturer and Speciality Lead in Primary and Rural Care. This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership in General Practice education within Western Australia's only undergraduate medical degree.

As Speciality Lead, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality, future-focused representation of Primary Care and Rural Generalism across all five years of the MBBS program. Working closely with Domain Leads, Year Coordinators, and the Clinical Dean - Primary Care, you will influence curriculum design, assessment, and teaching that directly impacts the next generation of doctors.

This flexible, part-time role is ideal for an experienced clinician-educator seeking meaningful academic leadership alongside ongoing clinical, research, or professional commitments.

Your new role

In this academic leadership position, you will:

* Provide strategic leadership for Primary Care and Rural Generalism within the MBBS program
* Review and refine curriculum outcomes to ensure alignment with Australian Medical Council Graduate Outcomes
* Lead the development and maintenance of specialty syllabus documents across all stages of the course
* Ensure effective vertical and horizontal integration of primary care teaching throughout the curriculum
* Contribute to assessment design and delivery as a writer, reviewer and/or examiner
* Deliver high-quality face-to-face and online teaching
* Participate in relevant Medical School committees and governance activities
* Mentor and support academic colleagues and Year Coordinators involved in specialty teaching
* Monitor and evaluate the impact of curriculum changes on student learning outcomes
* Engage in evidence-based scholarly activity and/or educational research aligned with the discipline.

About youYou are a respected GP with a passion for medical education and leadership. You bring credibility, collaboration, and a strong commitment to equity and community-focused healthcare.

Essential criteria

* Medical degree with current unrestricted AHPRA registration
* Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or FACRRM
* Extensive clinical experience in General Practice, including metropolitan and/or rural settings
* Demonstrated excellence in teaching, supervising and mentoring medical students and junior doctors
* Strong leadership capability, with experience in curriculum development or educational initiatives
* Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
* Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and ethical professional practice

Desirable criteria:

* Experience in curriculum quality improvement, assessment design, or accreditation processes
* A background in general practice research, with publications, presentations, or project involvement
* Interest in integrating research and evidence-based practice into teaching and curriculum design

Role requirements

As this is a continuing contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction.
