The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.
The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.
**Overview of the Branch and Sections**:
The Ministerial and Parliamentary Branch provides support to the Home Affairs portfolio Ministers' Offices, and support and advice to the Department of Home Affairs' Senior Executive in relation to Ministerial and Parliamentary matters. The Branch consists of four sections: Parliamentary Section, Ministerial Executive Coordination Section, Ministerial Correspondence and Parliamentary Document Management System (PDMS) Section, and the Cabinet Liaison Office (CLO). The Branch also provides Department Liaison Officer (DLO) support to the portfolio Ministers' Offices.

The **Parliamentary Section** leads the Home Affairs portfolio parliamentary processes, including Senate Estimates, Questions on Notice, Question Time Briefs, supporting the portfolio's submissions and appearances at Parliamentary Inquiries, management of the portfolio's tabling of documents in Parliament, and monitoring of Parliamentary business.
The **Ministerial Executive Coordination Section **provides support to the Home Affairs portfolio Ministers' Offices and provides DLOs in the Ministers' Offices. Support provided by the Section includes facilitating and coordinating briefings to government, the opposition and cross-bench, coordinating Ministerial submissions and briefs, and providing the Department's ministerial courier service.
The **Ministerial Correspondence & PDMS Section** coordinates the portfolio's Ministerial and Departmental Correspondence and manages the whole-of-government PDMS on behalf of the Department.
The **Cabinet Liaison Office (CLO)** provides support to portfolio Cabinet Ministers, the Secretary, and senior officials for their attendance at Cabinet and Cabinet Committee meetings.
