About the Queensland Fire Department
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities.
The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and supports community safety outcomes.
The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), and other units that work together to pre‐empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities.
Purpose of the role
Protect and serve the community by responding to fires and other emergencies in a professional and timely manner to minimise loss of life, property and the environment. Improve the safety and emergency preparedness of the community by contributing to fire prevention and community education activities.
Mandatory requirements
* Valid Blue Card (from Blue Card Services) with attached evidence
* Manual Medium Rigid (MR) driver's licence
* Current First Aid Certificate
* Current Advanced Resuscitation Certificate
* Compliance with QFD medical and fitness standards
* Criminal History Check
* Clinical Psychometric Assessment
Responsibilities
* Operations Management
o Respond to fire, road crash rescue/entrapments, technical rescues, hazardous material and other emergency incidents.
o Operate emergency response vehicles and equipment safely and effectively, including driving a fire appliance and other emergency vehicles as required.
o Provide first aid and resuscitation where required.
o Maintain QFD equipment, resources and facilities to ensure constant operational readiness.
o Undertake operational duties within the five roles of Operations Management: research and information, risk reduction, readiness, response, and recovery.
* Community Safety Operations
o Promote community awareness in fire prevention by supporting and participating in community education programs and activities.
o Assist with inspection of property, buildings and emergency response equipment and development of evacuation plans and emergency response procedures.
o Communicate effectively and appropriately within the workplace, with other emergency service personnel and with members of the community.
* Professional Development
o Develop and maintain competencies as required by QFD and pursue self‐development through relevant training programs.
o Participate in tactical, operational and technical functions, acquire suitable skills, and maintain them through professional development programmes.
* Operations Business Management
o Undertake administrative duties and contribute to the maintenance of manual and computerised station records.
o Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to organisational health policies and principles.
