Environmental Compliance Coordinator – Careers at Council
Location: Hawkesbury City Council, Windsor, New South Wales
Full‑time, permanent

About the Role
Lead and coordinate the Compliance Team to ensure all reports of unlawful activity and breaches of legislation are investigated and enforced. This role involves site inspections, case‑management of complex investigations, training, mentoring, guiding staff, and delivering process‑improvement projects and enforcement programs to address contemporary compliance issues.
Reporting to the Regulatory Services Manager, the Coordinator will work closely with environmental health, animal services, community safety, and the City Planning Leadership team.
Essential Criteria
- Tertiary qualification in building surveying, local government investigations or a related regulatory or legal discipline.
- Experience and knowledge of NSW legislation including the Protection of the Environment Operations Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Local Government Act, Contaminated Land Management Act, Food Act and Public Health Act.
- Extensive demonstrated experience in development compliance, building compliance, environmental investigations or a related field.
- Leadership experience coaching and mentoring a high‑performing team with a focus on customer service.
- Right to live and work in Australia.
- Class C driver’s licence.
- Working with Children Check (WWCC).
- Successful applicants will undergo background (police) checks and a medical declaration.
Desirable
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Law (Local Government), Town Planning or equivalent experience.
- Project management skills and the ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate activities.
