Musicians - become a music mentor to transform the lives of young people at risk
Musicians: Your love of music could make a huge difference to the lives of at-risk young people.
The Sound Mentoring program provides music mentorship to disadvantaged young people, helping them to achieve their potential as artists and human beings.
Come and join us as a mentor and we will provide you with the training, guidance and the opportunity to mentor a young person based on your skillset, e.g. whether that be in production, songwriting, singing, guitar, keyboard or other.
Music mentoring is such a fulfilling journey that can transform not just your life, but the life of a disadvantaged young person in need of confidence, positive role models and an outlet for their creativity.

Build your own life skills and industry skills e.g. confidence working as a producer with people, music teaching and chops, musical abilities, leadership and more
Receive new work references and invaluable work experience applicable to a range of fields from music producers/engineers, to community musicians/music therapists, to music teaching, youth working, counselling, management etc
On-job training and development provided
Experience required
Proficiency in ONE of the following: using a DAW, handling music equipment, recording and songwriting
Instrument proficiency (e.g. drums, singing, guitar, keyboard, percussion or other)
Vocal coaching
Creative coaching
Navigating the music industry
Commitment
Minimum 10 × 1-hour mentoring sessions
Choice to run mentoring sessions at Auburn Youth Centre, The Street University Liverpool, Midjuburi Youth Resource Centre and/or Virtual Sessions over Zoom
Be responsible and able to act as a role model for young people
Attend a 5-hour online Mentor Training Day.
The next one is on Sunday, 18 August from 10 am-3 pm AEST via Zoom
While this is a volunteering role, it would need to be treated with the same seriousness as a professional job or undertaking
Online or Remote
Category – Arts & Culture
Commitment – Regular, less than 6 months
Type Of Work – Arts, Craft & Photography, Companionship & Social Support, Fundraising & Events, Music & Entertainment
Time Required – Minimum 10 × 1-hour sessions.
Sessions delivered weekly or fortnightly.
You decide when and where you'd like to do your sessions with your mentee
Training – Induction and training provided.
We will also co-ordinate sessions for you with your mentee.
