Job Summary
The post holder is a member of the Facilities Team based in Housekeeping and Domestic Services at Cheswold Park Hospital. They will be responsible for carrying out catering and cleaning duties, reporting to Housekeeping and Domestic Supervisors and the Housekeeping Manager. The role requires flexibility in approach to the duties.
Working Pattern
Posts available: 4 of 30 hours per week, 5 of 6 hour shifts per week on a rota basis including weekends and bank holidays.
Sponsorship
At the time of advertising, this role does not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration to sponsor candidates to work in the UK, so sponsorship is not available. The position is open to candidates who can prove their right to work in the UK or via alternative visa routes.
Key Result Areas
1. Housekeeping duties
* Receive and store all food in accordance with set standards and Trust policy.
* Maintain accurate records of food storage and regeneration.
* Regenerate/prepare and serve meals and sundry items of food in accordance with set standards; provide and prepare ad‐hoc meals when requested, liaising with named nurse to ensure care plans are followed.
* Prepare for meal times ensuring menus are displayed in accordance with set standards.
* Prepare for requisitioning of sundry items of food, cleaning materials, linen and equipment for authorisation by the Clinical or Facilities Service Manager.
* Remove and store dirty linen to appropriate storage area with due care and attention to moving and handling techniques.
* Store linen personal clothing as laundered and ensure sufficient stocks are available at all times to meet service user requirements.
* Launder bed linen within the unit as required and in accordance with Trust policy.
* Support Service users in guiding them to use laundry equipment when required.
* Communicate with multidisciplinary teams (nursing staff, catering, dieticians and facilities) to ensure service users receive special diets in accordance with nutritional requirements and care plans.
* Liaise and communicate any menu changes and answer any queries relating to menu changes with service users and nursing staff.
2. General duties
* Damp dust all items in bed area (bedside cabinets, bed frame, lamps, chairs, etc.); furniture in bed areas to be moved once a week to facilitate cleaning of pipes, skirting and ledges.
* Damp dust all other furniture and fittings (tables, trolleys, window sills).
* Empty and dispose of all household/clinical waste in accordance with Infection Control and Health and Safety policies.
* Supply and replenish consumables (paper towels, toilet rolls, soap, etc.).
* Report mechanical defects, pest sightings or building/environmental faults to appropriate personnel.
* Follow units operational procedures for securing and locking doors.
* Spot clean spillages as they occur in line with Infection Control and Health and Safety policies.
* Dishwashing and washing up teacups, saucers, side plates and cutlery after beverages and main meals.
* Cleaning of bulk food heated trolleys after each meal.
* Cleaning of kitchen surfaces and catering equipment.
* Damp mopping of kitchen floor and spot mop spillages.
* Sanitary fittings: cleaning of w.c. pans, urinals, bidets and slop hoppers; cleaning of wash hand basins, baths and showers; cleaning of tiled splashback, mirror and towel cabinet; damp mopping of sanitary and sluice areas.
* Replenish supplies of paper towels, toilet rolls and soap.
* Floor care: dry mop, sweep all floors to remove dust and refuse; damp mop all floor areas and spot mop to remove spillage; machine scrubbing of all hard floors; vacuum carpeted areas; cleaning carpets with hot water extraction; clean all equipment thoroughly.
* Weekly duties: high dusting of walls and fittings; damp dusting of pipes and ledges; thorough cleaning of catering equipment.
* Periodic duties: maintain hard floor surfaces; washing of paintwork; cleaning wheels of beds, bedside lockers; curtain changing; thorough cleaning of equipment and machinery; cleaning of store cupboards; thorough cleaning of furniture.

* Previous experience of working in a demanding work environment.
* Previous experience of working in an industrial cleaning and/or catering environment.
* Experience within a customer care or patient‐focused environment.
* Commitment to undertaking relevant training commensurate to the job role.
* Level 2 Certificate in Food Safety or willingness to undertake and successfully complete within 12 months.

The post will involve manual handling duties and constant movement and standing for the duration of the shift; occasional exposure to noxious smells while cleaning sanitary areas and smoke rooms.
