This senior role focuses on implant restorations, from single-unit crowns through to complex full-arch and hybrid frameworks. You will be responsible for overseeing the implant workflow, ensuring precision fit, aesthetics, and function. The successful candidate will also play a leadership role, mentoring junior technicians and collaborating closely with dentists on treatment planning and case requirements.
You will be using a mix of traditional skills and modern digital tools, including 3Shape and Exocad CAD software, milling machines, and 3D printers. Advanced ceramic artistry is highly valued in this role, as our clients expect both functional and aesthetic excellence.
Key Responsibilities
 * Planning, designing, and manufacturing a broad range of restorative dental appliances including crowns, bridges, veneers, splints, and implant-supported restorations.
 * Ensuring that all restorations meet high standards of aesthetics, function, durability, and compliance with TGA and Australian health regulations.
 * Managing workflows within the ceramics, CAD/CAM, and implant departments to ensure efficient turnaround and consistency of output.
 * Supervising and mentoring junior technicians, providing training in digital workflows, ceramics layering, and implant protocols.
 * Liaising directly with dental practitioners to clarify case requirements, resolve technical queries, and contribute to treatment planning.
 * Maintaining quality control systems, laboratory documentation, and compliance with internal SOPs and external regulatory requirements.
 * Design and implement full anatomic frameworks and superstructures.
 * Create surgical guides using Exoplan and Implant Studio software.
Daily duties
 * Designing restorations using 3Shape/Exocad CAD software, including single crowns, multi-unit bridges, full-arch frameworks, and implant-supported prostheses.
 * Operating and calibrating milling machines and 3D printers for zirconia, PMMA, wax, and hybrid materials.
 * Performing ceramic layering, staining, glazing, and finishing of zirconia and e.max restorations to achieve natural aesthetics.
 * Verifying and adjusting implant frameworks for passivity, occlusion, and emergence profile accuracy.
 * Conducting shade matching, photographic documentation, and clinician consultations.
Skills
 * Advanced ceramic artistry, including staining, layering, and glazing techniques to produce high-aesthetic anterior and posterior restorations.
 * Strong proficiency in CAD/CAM design platforms (3Shape, Exocad or equivalent), including implant workflows and multi-unit restorative designs.
 * Ability to manufacture and troubleshoot implant-supported restorations such as screw-retained bridges, hybrids, and full-arch prostheses.
 * In-depth knowledge of occlusion and functional morphology, ensuring restorations are clinically viable and durable.
 * Familiarity with TGA compliance standards, laboratory SOPs, and quality assurance protocols.
 * Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with clinicians and internal team members.
 * Ability to supervise and mentor less experienced technicians, ensuring skill transfer and staff development.
Experience
 * A minimum 7 years of relevant experience (in implant restoration) in a commercial dental laboratory.
 * Demonstrated portfolio of work across ceramics, CAD/CAM design, and implant prosthetics.
 * Proven ability to manage complex cases such as multi-unit bridges and full-arch implant frameworks.
 * Experience in digital workflows, including file intake, design approvals, and quality assurance.
 * Previous responsibility for mentoring or supervising junior technicians is highly desirable.
 * Prior experience in managing a dental laboratory is preferred.
