Position Overview
As a Barista in a fast food environment such as McCafé within a McDonald's restaurant, you are responsible for preparing and serving a range of hot and cold beverages to customers, while maintaining speed, quality, and excellent service. This role combines technical coffee-making skills with a strong focus on customer interaction and cleanliness, and contributes to the smooth operation of the restaurant's café area.
Key Responsibilities
Beverage Preparation and Service
Prepare espresso-based and other specialty coffee beverages to McCafé standards.
Operate commercial coffee machines, grinders, and blenders.
Follow McDonald's and McCafé beverage preparation procedures and presentation standards.
Accurately take and process customer orders quickly and efficiently.
Customer Interaction
Provide friendly, fast, and professional customer service.
Engage with customers to recommend drinks and answer product-related questions.
Handle customer feedback and resolve minor issues promptly or escalate to supervisors.
Cleaning and Hygiene
Maintain a clean and organised coffee station at all times.
Wash and sanitise utensils, cups, and coffee equipment throughout and after service.
Refill consumables (e.g., milk, cups, sugar, napkins) as needed.
Adhere to strict hygiene and food safety protocols as per company and regulatory standards.
Operational Support
Assist with restocking and inventory rotation of café products and supplies.
Report any equipment faults or stock shortages to management.
Assist other team members during peak periods, including light food prep or customer service at the front counter.
Skills and Attributes
Friendly and professional demeanour with strong communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
Basic understanding of hygiene and food safety standards.
Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays.
Team player with a positive attitude.
Prior experience as a barista or in a customer service role.
Barista training certificate or food safety qualification.
Familiarity with McCafé or similar fast-paced coffee service environments.
Standing for long periods, exposure to hot equipment and potential allergen handling.
