A prominent Melbourne family is seeking an exceptional General Manager to take full operational ownership of their private household — across three properties, a small dedicated team, and a broad portfolio of responsibilities spanning property management, event co‐ordination, family logistics and more. This is not a role for someone who needs a narrow brief. You will be the engine room: setting standards, building systems, leading people and solving problems.
Full‐time
Permanent
5 weeks annual leave
WHAT YOU'LL LEAD People & culture
* Build and manage a team of 5‐6 full & part‐time staff plus contractors across household, vehicle, property and garden functions.
* Set clear expectations, establish a positive team culture, and hold people to high standards through structured feedback and regular reviews.
* Own performance management, and where necessary, difficult conversations — with fairness and good judgement.
* Uphold and embed household principles: frugality, integrity and quality.
* Coordinate team leave, larger projects, and day‐to‐day scheduling across sites.
Property & operations
* Oversee the presentation, maintenance, and readiness of three private residences across metropolitan, coastal, and rural settings.
* Develop and monitor checklists and processes across cleaning, garden, security, and property inspections.
* Manage a curated panel of trusted trades and contractors — tightly, with strong commercial oversight.
* Approve invoices, manage household budgets, and report regularly against costs and property KPIs.
* Co‐ordinate family visits and ensure each property is immaculately prepared in advance.
* Plan and co‐ordinate events, ensuring seamless logistics from brief to delivery.
* Take ownership of household ordering — groceries, supplies — with an eye on quality and cost.
Aviation (future)
* Assume management responsibility for a private aircraft— scheduling, compliance, maintenance coordination, and crew liaison.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING Skills & Experience
* Accomplished organiser and people manager with strong judgement, emotional intelligence, and the ability to have difficult conversations constructively.
* Exceptionally organised — comfortable holding many moving parts simultaneously.
* Disciplined and process-driven; you build checklists and ensure they are used.
* Strong problem solver with sound commercial instincts and negotiation skills.
* Genuine attention to detail across every dimension of the role.
* Willingness to be hands‐on, including driving between properties as required.
Character
* Deeply honest — someone whose word means something.
* Reliable in the truest sense: consistent, dependable, and always follows through.
* Takes genuine pride in doing a job well; holds themselves to account without being told.
* Discreet by nature, not by instruction.
* Warm and respectful in how they lead and engage with others.
REMUNERATION & BENEFITS
* Highly competitive salary, commensurate with the scope and seniority of the role.
* Five weeks annual leave.
* Investment in your professional development.
* Exclusive access to a private beach / rural estate (one to two stays per year) for outstanding performer.
