The Taste of Italy is seeking an experienced Cook specialising in Italian cuisine to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. This role requires hands-on preparation and cooking of traditional Italian dishes using authentic recipes, ingredients and cooking methods. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing high-quality Italian food, maintaining kitchen standards, supporting daily kitchen operations and assisting with menu planning.
Key Responsibilities
* Examine ingredients and foodstuffs to ensure quality and freshness
* Prepare, cook and season traditional Italian dishes, including pizza, lasagna, arancini, schiacciata, panzerotti, pasta and desserts
* Follow authentic Italian recipes, preparation techniques and cooking methods
* Operate and regulate ovens, grills, fryers and pizza ovens at correct temperatures
* Portion, plate and present food for service
* Store and handle food in temperature-controlled facilities in accordance with food safety standards
* Prepare food to meet dietary requirements and customer requests
* Contribute to menu planning and estimating food requirements
* Train and guide junior kitchen staff and apprentices in traditional Italian cooking methods
* Maintain cleanliness, hygiene and food safety standards in all food preparation areas
* Work cooperatively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure efficient service
Skills and Experience The successful candidate must have:
* Strong knowledge of Italian cuisine and traditional Italian cooking methods
* Experience preparing and cooking Italian dishes in a commercial kitchen environment
* Ability to work under pressure in a busy hospitality environment
* Good organisational and time management skills
* Excellent teamwork and communication skills
* Understanding of food safety, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness requirements
* Ability to follow recipes, portion control standards and kitchen procedures
