**Who are we looking for?**

We are seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow, School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Faculty of Science to join School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Faculty of Science.

The aim of the ARC Training Centre for Advanced Building Systems Against Airborne Infection Transmission (THRIVE) is to engineer building systems whose elements work together to reduce airborne infection transmission by improving indoor air quality while maintaining comfort and efficiency. The significance is in establishing clean indoor air as the norm, with industry being the forerunner in this process. The outcomes include current intelligent building systems, improved building technologies, quantitative methods for building control, evidence for policymaking and recommendations for operational guidelines. Wide-ranging benefits include reducing the health and economic burden of inadequate indoor air and increasing the competitiveness of Australian industry in the face of increasing demand for next-level building systems. This position provides an exciting opportunity as a key member of a dynamic research team to contribute to the development of instruments to improve indoor air quality. The successful applicant will have a doctorate in computational fluid dynamics, aerosol science, aerobiology, building science, public health, environmental science. A strong research background in Indoor Air Quality would be preferable (or would be an advantage). This position reports to the Director of the ITTC Centre Director for career planning, development, and performance expectations.

**Real world impact**

QUT is a major Australian university with a global outlook and a 'real world' focus. We are an ambitious and collaborative institution that seeks to equip our students and graduates with the skills they will need in an increasingly disrupted and challenged world.

**About the area**

The School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences specialises in understanding fundamental chemical and physical processes that operate across Earth’s physical spheres. As researchers and educators, it’s staff are motivated by the need to solve current global challenges such as the state of the atmosphere, greenhouse gas emissions, energy and resource sustainability, and future planetary habitability. Core research focuses on the lithosphere, atmosphere and hydrosphere.

We investigate how these physical spheres have evolved over Earth’s history and observe through geospatial science in order to understand interactions between each sphere and all life. We are a diverse team of experts who deliver world-class education and achieve breakthroughs in research with particular focus on:

- Earth observation
- natural resources
- atmospheric composition and change
- air quality and pollution
- natural hazards
- environmental science challenges (including reef restoration and energy)
- future planetary habitability

Our view for the future of the School is to maintain and grow existing disciplinary strengths igneous petrology, geochemistry, volcanology, marine geology and tectonics. Our staff have joined QUT from across the world and are united by the global nature of our research. We are experts in our research areas and hold a number of competitive grants from the Australian Research Council, as well as editorial positions in leading scientific journals, such as Environmental Science and Technology, Atmospheric Environment, and Chemical Geology.

Our research is well-aligned with the university research priorities and strengthens the University’s real-world positioning through better partnerships across internal and external boundaries. In the 2018 Excellence in Research for Australia evaluation, we received a ranking of 5 (well above world standard) for Geology and 4 (above world standard) for Atmospheric Sciences, giving the School an overall ranking in the Earth sciences of 4 (above world standard). We conduct our research using QUT’s state-of-the art instruments and facilities, including those based within the Central Analytical Research Facility..

**What you need to succeed**

1.Completion of a doctoral qualification with advanced expertise in instrumentation on ambient particle measurement.
2. Demonstrated research experience in Indoor Air Quality.
3. Demonstrated experience in laboratory and field techniques in indoor air quality is an advantage.
4. Proven success at establishing and developing internal and external partnerships that extend best practice.
5. Evidence of support on national and international research outcomes including relevant publications.
6. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and engage effectively with internal/external stakeholders.
