About the Role

The Industrial Painter / Blaster is responsible for carrying out blasting and protective coating activities on fabricated steel components to ensure products meet required specifications, quality standards and production timelines. Working within the paint and blast bay, the position involves preparing surfaces, operating specialised equipment, applying coatings, and performing inspections while maintaining a strong focus on safety, efficiency and workmanship. The role also supports broader workshop, yard and dispatch operations as required, including material handling using overhead cranes and forklifts (where authorised). Close collaboration with production teams is essential to ensure workflow continuity, along with accurate record-keeping and adherence to organisational procedures. The position plays a key part in delivering high-quality outcomes and upholding the professional standards of Ahrens. This position is based at our Kingsford, SA workshop.

Key Responsibilities

* Read and interpret job cards, work orders and production schedules to determine job instructions and specifications.
* Set up and operate tools and equipment relevant to the blast and paint trade.
* Safely and efficiently operate blasting equipment to remove corrosion and prepare fabricated components in accordance with job specifications.
* Prepare surfaces and apply protective coatings in line with job specifications, relevant standards and technical data sheets.
* Complete touch-ups and rework as required to ensure product quality standards are met.
* Identify and report faulty equipment, defective materials or product issues.
* Operate overhead cranes and forklifts (where licensed and authorised) to move steel within the paint/blast bay.
* Maintain high standards of housekeeping and conduct routine maintenance of work areas, tools and equipment.
* Assist in yard, dispatch and workshop duties as required.

Skills and Experience

* Trade qualification in blasting and painting, or relevant industry experience
* Sound knowledge of standard practices, processes and methods within the abrasive blasting and industrial painting trade
* Demonstrated commitment to safe and reliable work practices
* Good physical fitness, including strong coordination, manual dexterity, hearing and vision
* Reliable and cooperative team attitude
* Genuine interest in and commitment to industrial blasting and painting work
* Motivated with a willingness to undertake additional training and development
* Willingness to assist across multiple work areas as required
* Current forklift licence
* Crane operating skills and relevant experience
* Strong understanding of hazards and safety precautions specific to the blast and paint trade
