Global Networks & Technology - Security & Operations is responsible for Telstra's security and operations, protecting Telstra's assets and infrastructure. As a Senior Security Engineer focused on Web Application Firewall (WAF) capabilities you will be involved in designing, building, and configuring Telstra’s WAF security platform to protect critical internal and customer-facing web applications .
This is a high-impact opportunity to shape a new function within the security engineering group, contributing to Telstra’s broader mission to deliver secure, scalable, and innovative technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design, engineering, and technical support of Telstra’s WAF platforms.
* Define and configure security controls and policies to protect web applications.
* Collaborate with stakeholders across Telstra and external vendors to align on technical and business objectives .
* Develop test applications and assist application owners with troubleshooting.
* Conduct architecture reviews, configuration, and implementation of WAF solutions.
* Evaluate WAF products and contribute to technology roadmaps and standards.
* Drive operational readiness and lifecycle management of WAF platforms.
* Provide engineering consulting and contribute to incident response planning with Cyber Security teams.
* Act as the subject matter expert and technical lead for WAF within the team.
About You
You are a seasoned security engineer with:
* 5–10 years’ extensive experience in successfully deploying WAF Security (Akamai, Radware, Cloudflare, AWS, Azure, Imperva) and configured security policies for protecting different web and other applications.
* Strong background in web application development and troubleshooting. Proven experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and various back-end languages like Python, Java, or Ruby. Nice to have skills: SQL or MongoDB, RESTful APIs and JSON.
* Solid foundation and experience with deploying and configuring network infrastructure (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, F5).
* Solid understanding of network routing and switching protocols (IP, TCP, UDP, SSL, HTTP, etc.).
* Proven ability to work independently and manage stakeholder relationships.
* Experience collaborating in large enterprise environments and cross-functional teams.
* A mindset geared towards innovation, simplification, and continuous improvement.
* Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to guide and mentor others.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or IT.
* Certifications such as Cisco CCNP/CCIE, Juniper JNCIS/JNCIE, CISSP.
