Biosecurity Specialist Role
* As an APS4 Biosecurity Specialist, you will perform critical screening, inspection and assurance activities related to cargo, conveyances and people entering Australia.
* You will assess documentation for biosecurity compliance, manage non-compliant goods, and provide timely advice on biosecurity matters.
* Identifying trends in biosecurity risks is key, so you will escalate them to support targeting intelligence and risk-based activities, and ensure compliance with departmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Cargo Screening: Conduct thorough checks of cargo and conveyances to prevent the introduction and spread of pests, diseases, and invasive species.
* Documentation Assessment: Review and verify documentation to ensure compliance with biosecurity regulations and standards.
* Advice and Support: Provide expert advice to stakeholders on biosecurity matters, including guidance on regulatory requirements and best practices.
Requirements:
* Education: Relevant qualifications in a field such as biology, chemistry, or environmental science.
* Experience: Previous experience in a biosecurity or related role, preferably in a government agency or regulatory environment.
* Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
