Overview
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Division is responsible for promoting and implementing regional and state-wide consistency in areas relating to student health, wellbeing, inclusion, and engagement supports.
LOOKOUT Education Support Centres, situated within each region's Student Wellbeing and Engagement Division, seek to address the educational disadvantage of many children and young people living in out-of-home care (OoHC).
LOOKOUT Psychologists are based in each LOOKOUT Centre to work within the multi-disciplinary team across early childhood and school environments focusing on:
Ensuring that evidence-based strategies are employed to meet the psychological needs of children and young people, with a focus on the education context.
Building the capabilities of schools (including Learning Mentors and Designated Teachers), early childhood education and care services, area teams, case managers, care managers and carers across their region to consider and better understand the relationship between trauma, mental health and wellbeing on the engagement and educational success of children and young people in OoH.
Contributing to the development of policy and practice, and leading related projects within the region to improve education outcomes for children and young people in OoHC.
Location
This role can be located in any of the North West Victoria Region offices, including Coburg, Greensborough, Bendigo, Mildura and Swan Hill. Some travel will be required across the region.
Accountabilities
Providing secondary consult to other LOOKOUT staff members and regional teams on complex cases.
Contributing to the development of policy and practice to improve education outcomes for children and young people in OoHC.
Providing professional advice and support to build the capabilities of schools and early childhood education and care services including Designated Teachers and Learning Mentors, Area Team staff (and to a lesser extent care managers and carers) to meet the often complex emotional and psychological needs and barriers faced by children and young people living in OoHC.
Delivering training, and advice and forming strategic working relationships to enhance the development of high quality IEPs, ENAs, and SSGs.
Delivering professional development to schools, early childhood education and care, targeted training and interventions to case managers and community service organisations with a focus on the education and wellbeing of children and young people in OoHC.
Mandated Qualifications
Graduate or Post-graduate qualification in psychology AND registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
